Warren John F Kennedy wins 2nd State title

John F. Kennedy Catholic School won their second state football championship in school history on December 3, 2016 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Kennedy’s defense held Minster’s offense to 159 yards (80 rushing and 79 passing). Senior Evan Boyd led JFK with 36 carries for 166 yards and two scores to pace the Eagles in their 24-6 Division VII state football victory. JFK’s defense, which held its opponents to 29 points through five playoff games, forced two fumbles and had one interception in the victory. This was the Eagles’ first state crown since the Division IV 1991 state title, and the first championship game appearance since their Division V title game in 2006.

Celebrations took place throughout the community to celebrate the victory. On Saturday, December 17, Mayor Doug Franklin welcomed our community to a celebration in the Gillen Gymnasium. Mayor Franklin, the Warren City Council and local dignitaries honored our Football Team, Coaches and Cheerleaders. The Trumbull County Commissioners held their December meeting in the Upper Campus Dining Hall at 9:30 a.m.. The Kennedy Football Team, Coaches and Cheerleaders were honored. On Tuesday, December 20, The Eastwood Mall honored the Football Team, Coaches and Cheerleaders at the center court of the Eastwood Mall.
