Edward J Smith was an Integral port of the 1965-1966 Warren G. Harding Basketball team that went 24-2 and the first team In the school's history to go to the Columbus Final Four. At 6'5" Ed was a two-year starter and during those years he was a mainstay to the team. Ed led the team's balanced scoring attack, in his senior year Ed scored 385 points and averaged 16 rebounds a game. Ed's play was recognized with many awards and recognitions, first team Trumbull County, second team All-Ohio, and he played for the Ohio North All Star squad. The most important honor was receiving a full scholarship to The Ohio State University. At OSU Ed played for Fred Taylor and was a member of the 1967~68 Final Four Team. Ed will always be remembered by his high school coach Jack Gysegem as a player who worked hard and cared about his teammates. Ed graduated from OSU In 1971 and received his Master's degree in 1977.
